Yay! Way to go, PC Fuzz!

Once again, good policing totally let down by hug-a-hoody magistrates.

No doubt the poor criminals will now have an army of social workers to support them.

Birch, anyone?

Aye right, THE BIRCH.

But at least any E.Bay sellers of stolen goods may think twice in future. It's the same principle of Police setting-up sting meetings, inviting known fellons to a "You have won a prize" presentation then nabbing them when the bozzos turn up to collect.
Well done the Poelliss.

So two and a half thousand pounds worth of boating equipment equates to a hundred hours of a scrote's time? That's one well paid scrote!

justice?????

So they steal £2500 worth of gear, not to mention the inconveniance, annoyance and frustration caused to original owners, and are forced to do 3 weeks work as punishment? they could easily nhave earned that money in that time. :(
i suppose that 'that will teach em'. they're so scared now that they wouldn't dare steal again...
...not!

Same old story, honest hard working people are victims and the crooks eather get off, or get off lightly

I am surprised Barnett, Rev Rude, Jonjo and the other persons who usually comment on police news items haven't complained yet about police officers wasting time on ebay or using sneaky tactics to catch thieves.

Bloody good bit of work by the cops in my opinion.

I suppose it might make thieves think twice about selling via ebay, but by showing how they were caught, publicising the 'you've won a lottery, come and collect your prize' stings, and showing how smugglers are caught on 'Passport Patrol' type shows, surely those methods are no longer of any use to the police?

Spot on. This kind of thing, whilst I understand the intention of putting it to press (Preventative publicity) frustrates the hell out of me.

Back when I was a police controller, we were shown the ANPR system. The Inspector in charge of the system for the force I was with explained how a Drug Dealer kept getting arrested every time he brought a shipment across the Forth Road Bridge in his car, and was astonished how they were ready for him each time...(He used his own vehicle each time, ANPR *ping* as he went across the bridge, officers intercepting him minutes later!) - It was celebrated that this stealth method of identifying criminals remained shrouded in mystery and a great asset.

6 months later it's on "Police, Camera, Action" - With it being explained in painstaking detail exactly how it works...

Result : Crims start using hire cars, working out where the cameras are and avoiding them, obscuring plates and stealing and cloning plates...

Arrests resulting from ANPR identification drop off rapidly....thanks then!
