Anyone picked up a buoy recently outside yarmouth late on a friday night ? Intend to pick one up friday night for a sharp exit to the west country early saturday morning.

Just wondering if there will be any spare this time of year. Or will i be dropping the hook.

Were there the day before yesterday - only counted 7 boats on a buoy.
Was packed inside!

Yup always display riding light when on a buoy. don't like things going bump in the night.

I think you will find they belong to the Royal Solent YC and are not public moorings.

Did not think the RSYC was that snooty a club as long as one follows the conventions of using other's moorings? He did say he was arriving late and leaving early.

I don't know if they are or not, I am not a member there, but it doesn't change the fact that they are private club moorings to the East and the public ones are to the West.

My understanding of the conventions of using other people's moorings is that you use them with permission and pay your dues unless there is no other option. I wouldn't use them just to avoid paying a legitimate fee even if I was arriving late and leaving early.
