Out and about today, plenty of room at Yarmouth:

and the entrance to Ventnor Haven at about LW Portsmouth (1.7m)

The gull by the far post is standing up!

I gues Ventnor is ideal for canoes or maybe hovercraft then?Is there a quay Wall there for drying out against or is it mostly only suitable for bilge keelers?

There's not a wall I would lie against and options for a bilge keeler would be limited.

Ventnor

What a wasted opportunity Ventnor "marina" is. Anything more than a couple of 20' boats and its full. The south side of the Island is crying out for a decent harbour.

What do you think the chances of visiting in a cat drawing 1.5m, beam 17ft ?

Any idea of the tidal range ?

dunno - ask the Hydrographic office maybe? I thought they were quite food at this kind of stuff..

Not only would it be a bit tight getting in, it would be a case of where to go once in - it's out of season at the moment, there are more working boats in there usually as well as visitors/local boats.

Tide differences based on Portsmouth:
MHWS -0.8 metres, MHWN -0.6 metres, MLWN -0.2 metres, MLWS +0.2 metres.

I would be inclined to give the HM a ring first (before you ask, I can't find his number offhand - if no one else puts it up, I will dig it out and post).
