Yard Winter Storage Fees

That depends on the way their charging works. No simple answer. If you pay for 6 months storage and exceed it expect a charge, Some yards charge storage as part of the annual fee and may not charge extra if you exceed the normal storage period. Yet others may apply a surcharge if you do not vacate dry storage after a certain date perhaps because they need the space for parking.

As ever, read the contract you agreed to.

I know what I signed up to I was interested in what other people get charged assuming it is not an annual contract.

What does your yard charge once the 6 months winter storage period is up.

I have no idea. The boatyard where I winter seems unconcerned about the length of a winter stay and no such vulgarity as a written contract with terms has intruded on our harmonious relationship.

The yard I used to use, McKellars' Slipway in Kilcreggan, had a nice, simple policy: the same payment covered either winter storage (again dates were indeterminate) with haul-out and relaunch or twelve month's storage, so if you didn't launch one year there was no additional charge,

Milford Haven Marina, where I bought my current boat and where space ashore is at a premium, charged £1.15 per foot per week, as I recall.

Is that for the 6 month winter season or per week or month after the six months is up.

That was per week after the included time ashore (2 weeks? 4 weeks?) was up. I had a winter berthing contract there for just one winter, between buying the boat and moving her north.

Then the answer to what people are charged will depend on the yard's policy. A "six month storage period" is not a universal commodity. The yard I use has a per week tariff with a 10% discount for paying Oct-March up front. If not paid up front it is billed monthly. During that period you can still have storage for shorter periods at the standard weekly rate. From April on the standard weekly charge applies, billed monthly.
