My new (to me) boat will be arriving via ferry from Spain to Portsmouth in Early July. So I'm hoping someone will have a recommendation for a good yard within 100km or so which can accept her off the lorry, step the mast, check rigging etc and generally get her ready for launch.

Searching the internet yields plenty of possibilities but personal recomendations are always much better.

I've recently used Deacons on the Hamble for the same thing. Very good service, very accomodating and a reasonable price. Nice place, very friendly and effecient staff. I'd have no qualms about recommending them. An all round good company to deal with.

I looked at Deacons but it appears from their site that they can handle only up to 45ft and 16 tons. I'm just outside those limits so it may be a bit of a squeeze.

Endeavour certainly have the capacity and generally know what they are doing. However, don't underestimate how long it will take to get from Portsmouth to Gosport by road particularly with a 45+ foot yacht in tow!

Thanks all for the info. I have contacted Endeavour and Deacons (hopefully they can handle the beasts size). It really is helpful to get personal recomendations as otherwise it is just a pin sticking exercise.

Three Kings,

You may want to consider Northney Marina. It is close to Portsmouth, has good marina facilities and all the services you require for commissioning a yacht. I use to work out of this marina and project managed commissioning new yacht delivered from France up to 52ft.

some considerations for you - will you be staying onboard - trafalgar marine good (i have a mate staying in camper van here while doing restoration), road access good - northney, what's your draught, could be an issue, i had 2 metres there ok - endeavour getting there by car is right royal pain, don't think you can stay there, but good yard - deacons - road access good - hamble road access can be a pain at times.

Trafalgar Wharf

I'm going there in June so can give you heads up then. I have beeen there on a couple of occasions to discuss and all looks good and professional. Costs are less than Hamble or any Premier marina and access is good. Small cafe on site is a bonus.
I'm arriving by transport as well so can give you an accaurate account early June.

Lifting and rigging

I would recommend Hamble Yacht Services at Port Hamble. Probably the biggest facilities in the area. They are used by the big racing guys but the prices are good.

As they are used by many of the top racing teams they have good on site riggers plus all of the back up stuff as well.

They lifted us out 10 days ago and we are due back in for the Bank holiday weekend on time (budget may be over but SWMBO keeps adding extra's to the work

Unfortunately Deacons have advised that she is just a bit big for them so I've sent off some mails to the other recomendations. Just waiting on replies but thanks everyone so far for your input.
