Hi All,
I see many posts here commenting on the outrageous cost of Yanmar parts. Good engines but by god they screw you severely for parts. I don't mind paying where I see intrinsic value in the good or service I'm buying but with Yanmar I see obscene price-gouging
I have rebuilt a YSB 12 Yanmar using parts from a Yanmar TS105 industrial engine. Many parts are common to both engines and even have the same part numbers. There are also many aftermarket sources because these industrial engines are still used extensively in Asia. The difference in price is staggering. In some cases I paid less than a tenth of the price of the so-called marine part. The engine runs beautifully (to the extent that you can expect smooth running from a 40 yr old single).
I'm about to tackle a 2GM20 and I wonder if anyone has sourced alternative parts for this engine? I see that Yanmar TS 60 has same bore size so maybe this is an option? I'm interested in typical rebuild bits like pistons, liners, main and big end bearings. Also interested in a lift pump. The cost of a genuine part here in Oz is almost $300.....ridiculous. Doesn't seem like a new diaphragm can be purchased separately. Why??? The pump is otherwise in good condition. Yet another example of greedy Yanmar screwing its customers.
Look forward to your thoughts.
Cheers
