Hi - proud owner of a Sabre 27 since May - need to pu the Yanmar yse 12 to bed for the winter. Managed to find an oil drain plug (bottom right) and water drain tap (quite low on left).

Plan to change the oil - run engine to heat oil & drain out & replace - what oil do folks use in these engines??

Also have been planning to remove impellor, open water drain tap to remove the sea water - do I need to do any more. Possibly thinking of running engine with water intake in a bucket of anti-freeze - is this worth doing?

Is there a published maintenance manual for these engines?

Any other tips re winterising this engine?

Cheers

mike

u seem to be on the right track, use any good grade diesel oil ( API spec cc or better 15/40) the diesel spec is the letter C on the can the second letter might be D , F or F4. the "higher the second letter the better. dont buy " branded "oils cos u pay through the nose for the same oil , go to your local discount car parts man.
prior to stopping for the last time i used to leave the engine on idle speed & CAREFULLY DRIZZLE ENGINE OIL INTO THE AIR INTAKE. u get increased revs + a lot of smoke then stop engine spray with w.d.40 & cover whole engine with dust sheet or similar. dont restart untill u plan to relaunch, it will go first time.

just something i remebered.
dont remove the injector unless nessesary as u need to replace the plastic "polo mint" seal /gasket each time its taken out.
also the jabsco impellors fit & cheaper than yanmar.
watch out for diesel getting onto the stbd mounting from the injector pump
