Yanmar YSE/B electric diesel lift pump

Yanmar YSE/Lift pump

I was referring to the Yanmar engine which seems to rely on gravity feed to injector pump on the boat (which I puchased before winter). There is no mechanical pump The fuel tank outlet at the rear of the boat is below the injector pump inlet and the system is very difficult to bleed....

Didn't the YSE8 have an integral tank on top of the cylinders ?

Single Cylinder- :p

The integral tank was optional. Original spec should have been a mechanical lift pump with a tickler and a small filter body also bolted to the engine.

My boat had the pump even though the tank outlet was higher than the engine, probably could have been omitted as the bleed points flowed without assistance.

I'm surprised the injector pump is capable of pulling fuel uphill at all, along an air filled feed pipe, are you sure there's no pump hiding being the alternator?

If you find a pump, work the lever to bleed to save battery. If it doesn't seem to work, it could be 'on the cam'- crank the engine a few degrees and retry.

If you do go electric, a very., very, small capacity pump with do, these engines use hardly any fuel.

Ah I thought the YSE 8was the horizontal twin . what model was that ??

The engine, YSB12 did, according to the manual , originally have the integral fuel tank, mounted on top. My installation has the fuel tank separate from the engine, with a separator bowl at the tank outlet then two CAV filters. I`ve traced the fuel line frpm the tank and can see no lift pump, but will check again tomorrow. I think I will install an electric lift pump.
I`m grateful for all of the advice offered and would welcome any further points/advice/thoughts.

Cheers
