Hi, I have a Yanmar 3GM30F with what I think is a Type B control panel.

Bit of a daft question (having owned the boat for 7 or so years!) - what does the rubber toggle switch do?
I searched online and found a manual that labelled this with a number, but not a description (doh!). It isn't the start button or stop pull - but above the start button, and never used by me. I suspect from online sources that it might be a lighting switch?

The rubber around this has deteriorated and fell off last weekend. Does this matter, and where would I get a new rubber cover for this switch ?

Thanks

The covers are generally an optional extra with certain models of switch. You may or may not be able to buy them separately, but if not then a handy switch "free" with the cover for a couple of quid is hardly a big deal. I buy them from ebay - see eg http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Waterproo...FF-Car-Dash-Light-Metal-12-Volt-/280812195880 .

(This is assuming that the cover screws onto the thread of the toggle switch and isn't moulded into the rubber facing of the panel - I'm not familiar with the unit in question.)

Isn't the switch meant to test the buzzer or to switch it off?

I've no idea whether my Yanmar panel is type B or not, but there are two toggle switches. One to illuminate the panel and a second to turn off the warning buzzer.
