Hello - and apologies if you've seen this before. My initial thread got a bit lost in time.
I'd be really grateful for any advice pls.The starter motor for my Yanmar 3GM has a bad intermittent fault. I've taken the unit off the boat and checked and tested and found the wiring etc ok and the solenoid fine. There seems to be some problem on the shaft (flat spot??). The unit starts and the shaft turns for perhaps 3 or 4 times, then won't budge until I manually turn the shaft. I'm going to see if it can be serviced, but if I have to replace it, does it have to be a Yanmar marine or are there any alternatives? It does seem that if the word 'marine' is mentioned the price doubles. The starter is a 9 tooth, 1kw (Hitachi) S114-303.
Many thanks.
