Yanmar Saildrive parts

Can any one help with a source for the "doughnut" that sits over the hole in the boat for the sail drive unit. £300 seems a little bit steep for a bit of rubber

Try buying from abroard, could be cheaper than ripoff uk. There is no alternitive than a propper Yanmar part, Whats your boat worth?

Rumour has it that the Yanmar agent in Cherbourg is cheaper than the UK.

Could be worth a phone call and maybe a day out !

Do you mean the primary seal, secondry seal or the outer trim. For the outer trim I would suggest a piece of sheet rubber.
Yes the parts are expensive, not come accross anything cheap.

some years ago i bought all my spares from usa until they refused saying they were no longer allowed by their trade agreement with yanmar to despatch spares outside of their designated area. bit of a bugger as costs of things like filters almost doubled. restrictive trade practice in my view.

problem with buying abroad, i found, is that if they don't have it in stock then you come up against same problem ...

marine power at burseldon (top of hamble) are ok ...

Cheers everyone, I have seen the place in France, may well give them a go.

Marine Power have everthing on their website, costing the job at the moment.

Looks like the saildrive rubbers haven't been touched since 1998, when fitted.

Yanmar saildrives don't have a recomended 'life'
They have a double seal and a water sensor between the two seals, when the sensor alarms its time to change the seal. Its important to check the sensor works from time to time

Re Bluechips comment on no recommended life of the seals. I've just bought a 2001 boat with the original seal and was planning to replace in a couple of years as i understood the life expectancy was seven years. Is this wrong ?

I thought that I had read somewhere that Yanmar was 7 years and Volvo 10 years

Volvo say 7 years.
