Yanmar Parts

Whoever comes up cheapest for the particular part when I google it.

Often these are builders' suppliers, as small Yanmar engines are used on site machinery like concrete pumps etc.

eBay - All the below from eBay at very much reduced price:

Brand new - Oil & fuel filters, raw water pump impellers - buy as and when they come up for sale and several if available.

Brand new starter motor - just over half price

Brand new exhaust mixer - bought two at less than half price - one to fit, one as a spare.

Reconditioned - spare raw water pump

You just have to keep looking and preferably have what you need in a saved search so eBAy inform you when they come up for sale.

Other suppliers

Drive belts from automotive suppliers - much cheaper & better quality

The only things I have bought from a Yanmar dealer over the past few years have been consumables such as gaskets etc.

Yanmar part source

Hi there,

Last year I bought spare parts from the Yanmar European distributors in Rotterdam. Even with the postage I saved a considerable amount over UK distributor prices. With the Euro/£ a little better at present could be even better bet. Here is their web address :
www.yanmarcenter.nl
They respond to emails.
If you need to identify Yanmar part numbers all the parts lists are available in this website, which you have to register on :
www.ribsmarineparts.co.uk
Good luck and let us know if you find cheap sources !

WOW they are expensive -

I have done battle with Barrus, the UK importer over prices, in the past. Specifically, of the Yanmar exhaust elbow on a 1GM10 but the principle is the same for all the parts I've bought for the engine over the years.

Simply put, USA prices for the self same part, identical number, seem to be the same in dollars as we are charged in pounds. What's that, an extra 'mark-up' of 30-35%? Note, that's an "EXTRA" mark up, as the US people are also making a profit!

When tackled, Barrus tried to claim it was "special taxes" and similar nonsense. When I pointed out that UK import duty on finished metal goods was 1.5% (at that time) and basically debunked their story, they eventually wrote and said that the price would henceforth be less. That was a couple of years ago. I still have the letter.

However, I notice that dealers are still charging the old price!

I now buy my stuff from the US and have it shipped to UK (still costs less than the UK price) or generic stuff (impellors bought locally for £11.89 etc).

As I keep wittering on, until we ALL stand up and say "NO" to this kind of practice, nothing will change.

The choice is in our hands.

These:

Are significantly cheaper than the genuine Yanmar parts and should last longer I think.

Think I will try this one, now anyone know an alternative for engine mounts Yanmar 2GM...

I have been quoted About £130 a corner, forward and aft 2 different grades and slightly different prices...

After my recent Lavac experience I am checking :D

Yanmar Engine Mounts

You may find that these companies could be worth contacting:

Trelleborg UK Ltd

Robush UK Ltd

R and D Marine - who were at Soton BS last year and had a leaflet on alternative Yanmar mounts.

No experience of buying from them but they have been mentioned in other threads before. I eventually gat a set of Yanmar mounts for my 4JH2-E on eBay.

Try PolyFlex www.polyflex.com.au UK distributor Southern Cross Marine in Salisbury. Might not be cheaper than Yanmar but are probably better

I ended up buying R&D Super Mounts when I replace a full set on my recent refub/upgrade?
Only thing is I had to provide a Iroko packer to maintain the same engine height

They seem fine after this first season? and I can aford to replace them 6 times for the price of Genuine Yanmar mounts

Wha?

I replaced the mounts on KS two years ago because the engine was coming out anyway and I thought I might as well take the opportunity. No real idea what I paid for the new ones, but I very much doubt it was £520 or I might not have bothered!

I still have my old ones in the shed if anyone wants to buy them :). Not sure exactly how old, but I assume they were replaced when the boat was re-engined and, as I said, I only replaced them on the basis that it was easy to do while the engine was out. The steel has some surface rust but the rubber looks in good nick as far as I remember.

What a crazy price, it's not exactly high tec.
when you compare that to something like a small outboard about the same price it's such a rip off.

2 years ago I used R.and D.mounts to replace the mounts of my yanmar 1gm10.
It cost me £135-00 for all four mounts.
They are good but a lot more stiffer than the yanmar ones and when first fitted the engine thumped like a piledriver. I did consider changing them but they "settled down" during their first season and now I don,t notice it.
To fit them we had to drill new location holes in the timber frame because they are a different size to the yanmar.
Hope this helps
