Yanmar Kanzaki KBW20 transmission rebuilt and shifting is reversed

I had my Yanmar Kanzaki KBW20 transmission rebuilt. The transmission was pulled with all cables left in current position. When it was reinstalled and cables connected, FWD placed the transmission in reverse and the opposite for reverse. Nothing has changed regarding the shifter lever and the cable routing to the transmission. Transmission guys are stumped! The shifter cable is connected exactly as described in the Yanmar service manual for 4jH2-TE motor.

Regarding the reassembly of the transmission or the cable routing. The mechanic wants to rotate the transmission shift lever 180 degrees so it points to the motor side and redo the cable routing bracket to point straight down.

I believe there is a difference in ratios, between ahead, and astern? As a 2nd check, that it is indeed al working correctly.
