Would anyone have the maintenance manual for a Yanmar/Kanzaki gearbox - model KM3A1 (as opposed to model KM3A)? If so, perhaps you could help me.

In the section on "Adjustment of the Shifting Device", a formula is given for calculating the thickness of the shims to be used with the stopper bolt when re-assembling the shifting device after maintenance.

The fomula is given as: T = (H - L +1.25) +/- 0.1mm where:

"T" is the thickness of the shims
"H" is the length of the stopper bolt (from the neck to the end of the bolt)
"L" is the distance between the end of the lever shaft and the surface of the shifter

In one of the diagrams in this section, ranges are given for both "L" and "H". For the KM3A and KM4A (for both of which I have the maintenance manuals), the range for "L" is given as 36.32mm - 38.78mm. I'm looking for the range for "L" for the KM3A1.

My problem is that I'm getting a measurement of over 40mm when I reassemble my gearbox - so I'm trying to establish if the KM3A1 has a different range different to the KM3A and KM4A or if I've done something wrong.

Many thanks.

Martin.

I thought that I'd have this but only manual mentioning KM3A1 covers "KM3P4 &-KM3A1 Service manual for torque limitter" (11 pages).

Main 148 page service manual covers KM3P, KM3A, KM4A, KBW20, KBW21 & KMH4A. No mention of KM3A1 but I see the section you mention on page 3-40 of HINSHI-H10-011. I do know that there are some differences in parts between KM3A and KM3A1 but don't have details.

I'll do some more digging in case I have other files but am pretty certain I don't have more. Let me know if the 11 page manual is of any use even though it only covers the torque limiter, you might need it in future.

UPDATE: Sorry, can't find any other manuals covering the KM3A1, just the one I mentioned above.

Hi Mistroma.

I have the manuals you mention - including the torque limiter service manual. Unfortunately, none of them explicitly cover my query for the KM3A1.

The parts list for the KM3A1 is almost identical to the KM4A (but, strangely, quite different to the KM3A1). It's likely, therefore, that the shifter clearance and other measurements are also the same - which leaves me with the puzzle as to why I'm getting a measurement so far outside the range given for it (and for the KM3A also).

Many thanks for your efforts anyway. I might have no option but to replace using the old shims and see if it works.

Best wishes.

Martin.
