Iv just been told Yanmar are hiking the cost of most of there engine parts up.
I’ve been able to find alternative oil filters and alternator belt but am having problems with the impeller. The engine is a 1GM10 and if some one knows alternative manufacture and the model number I would be grateful if they could let me know.

If other 1GM10 uses are interested from an earlier post these oil filters were given as alternatives to Yanmars gold plated ones.

The belt on my one is a 30inch one, but I’m told a lot of engineers use 31inch as the smaller is said to be very difficult to get on. Its an A section and as far as I can see a 1/2 section. But I will take one when I get a replacement to a local shop that sells belts and pulleys. But most car spares places will either have or can get them. A.S.A.P. sell them mail order but not as cheap and there will be others. On the phone they told me it would be under £5, about 1/2 the Yanmar price! These are with teeth, which I understand dive better grip than the smooth ones so even better at much lower cost.

Use ASAP Supplies for impellors as well - they are usually cheaper than engine spares - also they do another range which claims to survive 15 mins of dry running without damage, but I've never tested this in practice.
The belts with "teeth" underneath are Cogged Raw Edge belts and transmit about 50% more power than standard vee belts, but do seem to wear out quicker. Try BSL or Fenner - industrial drive suppliers as a cheaper alternative.

Try www.asapsupplies.com (Tel 0845 1300870)- they usually supply Fram or similar well known filters, once you get it, you know the reference no and you can go to your local car accessories shop and get the same probably cheaper. BUT beware of similar sounding & similar packaged filters - there are a lot around that are from places like China & the Far east that are very cheap and look like Fram & other makes - I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole... (my daughter bought one for an oil change on her car - brought the car me as she didn't have the correct spanner and I discovered this when you read the (very) small print...)
I now get all my fuel & oil filters from my local car accessory shop at well under half the official makers prices.

Regarding cost - for my engine I seem to remember that the makers cost was about £12 and I now pay about £4.50 - very rough prices.
The filters used are almost certainly identical to automotive filters - just painted a different colour with the makers name on it.
