One of the screws fixing the impeller chamber cover is obscured by a drive belt, making impeller replacement in emergency difficult. I think you can get knurled bolts or screws instead. Anyone know about this?
I fitted ss hex headed bolts to my 1 GM 10 water pump but have considered drilling a hole through the crank pulley in line with the offending screw, have heard of someone removing pump completely to gain access to impeller good luck.
There is a company that makes a product called Speedseal. I bought one. It cost about £30 two years ago. It has been excellent. Details from www.saferengine.com

approx £35 inc VAT. Beautifully machined and does "just what it claims". Had one for last 2 seasons and very satisfied.
I fitted Speedseals to my Yanmar 3GMs It doesn't get round the problem! Truth is that you're better off accepting that you have to take the pump off, it's only 2 bolts and you'll have the job done far quicker than the guy who tries to do it with the pump in place. The impeller is quite hard to remove so it's easier if you can get at it directly.
If you order a speedseal, make sure you get the right one, there are two types for the GM series, of very different sizes.
