Yanmar GM10 power problems

I have a 26ft Hunter Horizon with a GM10 engine. The top speed seems to be about 3 knots. On my moorings in the Blackwater I can bearly cope with the tidal stream. At full revs there is a distinct thud every few seconds. It is felt through the tiller. Can anyone give any advice on this?

you have fouled your popeller with weed/ barnacles/ plastic bag/ rope/ something else.

Huge palstic bag around the prop or something.

folding prop stuck, blade gone ?, also the yanmar gearbox can do this when the cone has worn badly causing it to slip then engage.

From my experience on the yanmar forum i would say it is more likley to be the cone.

If the thud is felt through the tiller then there's something underwater causing it.I think you'll have to dive and see.

Don't expect anything wrong with the GM10, sounds as though you have a partially fouled propellor. Either dive and get it off, dry the boat out and get it off or haul her and get it off.

The boat has only just gone in for the season so its not a plastic bag. More info on cones would help. Does it require removal of engine?

It depends on your access, any gearbox work will require an engine out for me.

There is good access front and the rear of the engine. Does this help?
