Can anyone suggest what sort of crusing fuel consumption I should expect from a Yanmar 3GM30 30 hp Diesel in a fin keel 34 foot sloop (Feeling 346). Displacement aprox 4000 kg?
I know I can measure it but thought Id give the forum a try first?

The usual rule of thumb is that you'll get 20 bhp.hours from a gallon of diesel. ie. at full 30 bhp you'll consume 1.5 gallons per hour. Such "driving" doesn't make sense except in extreme conditions or emergency and half power [appr. two-thirds max. revs.] should suffice ie. 0.75 gallons per hour. If you prefer a relaxed life style you could get get by on 0.5 gallons per hour.

I have a yanmar 35 in my 37 foot cruiser. Its normally run at between 1800 and 2200 rpm. I believe the recommended maximum rpm is around 3000 rpm. The engine uses about 0.6 gallons/hour at our cruising rpm. Hope this enables you to guess an approximate figure for your 30hp engine.
