On my 2GM20 there is a rattling noise im still trying to get to the bottom off, its in the background of the main engine noise. I have had the drive plate replaced thinking it was that, the engine also has a new thermostat, belts, filters, exhaust elbow, poly flex engine mounts, raw water pump and refurbished starter motor. I was going to move the gear box back to see if its bearings in that rattling. But a yanmar expert would be what i need ideally

thank you

John

(somone on marine diesel FB page suggested i test the injectors are firing by loosening the fuel hoses while the engine is in neautral)

A useful dodge is to use a screwdriver or length of wooden dowel as a "stethescope" between a location on the engine and your ear. It can help to pinpoint the source. Mind the moving bits though!
An unkind person might say that a rattle is what Yanmar GMs do.

took the gearbox off to try and find the noise, can still hear a screeching sort of noise, near the flywheel or above vicinity (high pitched rattle)
