Hi All
I am new to this forum but hopefully someone can help. We are salvaging a good 18horse Yanmar from one boat to another (both Shipman 28s). The engine mountings are severely corroded and need replacement. Is there anyone out there with suitable replacements 2nd hand who would sell to us? Also I was concerned with the old mountings as they seem to rely on engine gravity to hold the engine in place as the only vertical retention is the bonding of the rubber grommets to the 2 metal parts that they are sandwiched between.
If the boat turtled would the engine not try to come through the cockpit at you?
Any views?
Cheers

Yanmar mounts are very expensive - and yes they do rust, but no, the engine won't fall off in the unlikely event of the boat inverting if they are still bonded. Note that the mounts are different hardness front to rear. You can try the other suppliers mentioned, but if you plan to spend Yanmar type money you might consider Polymounts sold by Southern Cross in Salisbury.
