I think there was a letter recently in PBO commenting on how useless some parts of marine industry were.

I need to re-engine from our MD11C (available shortly for repair or spares) and I have left messages with two Yanmar dealers this week and not been called back - amazing that they don't want a £5k+ sale

Does anyone have very recent experience of a helpful Yanmar dealer that would be happy to sell an engine for the customer to do most of the installation work.

On the flip side Beta and Darglow were very helpful so it will probably be a Beta engine. I have also had great service from Nasa who repaired our old Navtex for £60, and Sanders Sails in Lymington who repaired our UV strip - I got a call 30 minutes after dropping it off to say it was ready - and they even delivered it back to the town quay to save me carrying it.

May be we start a list of good and bad marine related supplies on the forum?

My experience of most of my dealings with the marine industry over the past 10 years has been that they have been excellent.

I have made so many phone calls (occasionally emails followed by a call) to ask about purchasing spares because something has broken on the boat and, in so many cases, they have sent me the parts free of charge. I've lost count now but it is easily into double figures of "free" replacements. :)
