Hi All.
I'm asking this on behalf of 'Anthony' who hasn't got access to the web at the moment:
Anyone out there know where I can lay my hands on a compression gauge or adapter to fit a Yanmar 3GM30? Or has anybody got an old injector that can be converted? White smoke is being belched out all the time but the engine runs fine.
This was posted on the Yanmar forum but there was no reply! Yanmar want over £200 for a gauge which is fine if you like being ripped off, 'coz a generic one can be had for about £50!
Any ideas about the white smoke (It's not steam) other than possibly compression or head gasket?
Thanks.
Ken, for Anthony.

My Yanmar 1GM7 produces white steam/condensation when running perfectly normally, via Vetus waterlock and riser straight to transom. The engine was recently passed as 100% by Marine Power Bursledon.
Perhaps the answer is not to worry.

The problem I thought I had and paid £600 to get the engine checked to find out that it isnt a problem is that the engine seemed to lack power after starting but that turns out to be a generic 1GM7 problem that the alternator can stall the engine at tickover when the battery is low, and the gearbox is placed in forward.

Ah ok, interesting! Maybe I will stop worrying about it quite so much then, I too have a Vetus waterlock, so maybe its the same situation.

Many thanks!

Anthony
