Anybody have an current RS Components part no. for a Yanmar 2GM20 water pump belt?

The part no. that I previously used was 338-6593, but is now obsolete, and they don't give a replacement.

I wanted to get some before my next trip to the boat (hence I cannot measure the current one), and I'd rather buy some on our company account than from the overpriced Yanmar dealer.

Thank you.

This is your lucky day! I have a 2004 catalogue which lists 338-6593 as a Gates V-belt Z505 (i.e Z section, 505mm long).
It appears to be discontinued by RS. I would suggest someone like Wyko (nationwide stockist). Don't try BSL as they have a high minimum order price. Last RS price was £2.39 +VAT

Regards

Have you got a Fenner stockist where you live? Its a Z505 belt where Z is the profile and 505 is the length in mm.If you go on the net you should find a Fenner depot.I get my lawnmower belts from them.they make them and probably supply RS compts.

I've had Fenner belts and Gates belts. I will never buy Fenner again, they just don't last two minutes. Gates seem to last forever.
Just my personal experience, I have no connection with either company. My experiences do not relate to the Yanmar 2GM20, I wouldn't take the risk myself.

I,ve had no problems with Fenner. On my lawnmower which uses an expanding pulley arrangement probably the worse scenario for V-belts they have been OK.

I would check the construction of the belt as well as the dimensions.
Not all belts are made the same. I asked Fenner for a direct equivalent for a Gates drivebelt, they gave me their part number, I ordered two, one for a spare.
The first belt lasted about an hour before breaking up, the 'spare' didn't last much longer.
I bought the Gates original part 10 years ago and it's still OK.

Upon examination, the Fenner belt was manufactured with cords running round the periphery, the whole lot impregnated in rubber. The cords had separated under the load.

The Gates belt was entirely different, it was manufactured using a continuous tape, bonded with rubber.

Hardly the same at all.

That was 10 years ago, things may have improved by now, but it's best to check!

My experience with vee belts is that Gates are very good quality and Fenners/Wyco are almost as good. I am surprised the Fenner barely lasted - they were obviously not of the same type of construction. Years ago I used to order hundreds of Fenner belts and the only problem was that "matched sets" often were not!!
Don't forget you can get 'Z' belts and 'SPZ', which will fit in the same groove but will transmit much more power. My preference is for Gates "Cogged Raw Edge SPZ" which have cut flanks and a cogged inner diameter. They are much more flexible and still transmit more power than the "Z" belt.

True but not really applicable to a 2GM water pump.

I used the Fenner belts on my water pump with no problem at all. The last one was still there 6 years later when I sold the boat. The key issue is to make sure that the width is correct - the Yanmar belts are not the standard width of UK automotive belts and if you do use an auto one it will sit on the bottom of the groove, start to slip and be b***ered in no time.
