Yanmar 6LY3 UTP Service costs

Hi new owner of Beneteau Antares 30 fly with the Yanmar diesel and situated in Cyprus , no authorised mechanics on Island so previous owner flew one in from Turkey , boat is 10 years old btw … Two fold question 1/ is 760 euro for the annual service a fair price ( plus flight cost )
2/ If say the engine warranty has expired at 10 years old and 500+ hours is it feasible and safe to get a qualified non Yanmar mechanic available on the island to do a service and is it prudent to use brand name parts or generic ?

I don’t think I would be flying someone in to service an engine!
A routine service (oil/filter/anode (if they have them) change) is done by many owners themselves. Service requirements will be in a manual and getting a competent marine engineer to do it would be absolutely fine to my mind. It is what many boat owners do.

Can’t really comment on cost as I tend to do routine servicing myself - partly because of such costs and partly because I prefer to understand a bit about our engines. Yanmar parts aren’t cheap but would be interested to know what proportion of the quote is for labour.

Agree with Greg2, routine service is easily done by a local marine engineer or DIY. Yanmar parts are notoriously expensive, I have 6LP DTP’s on my boat and have saved a fortune using generic oil, filters, belts etc... Yanmar are quite particular about the type of coolant required, you can still use generic but make sure that the specification is the same.
I have found boatdiesel.com a really useful resource for troubleshooting and sourcing alternative parts.

I don't know your engines but most Yanmars don't have an "annual service"; service intervals are based on running hours and in very broad terms and using car terminology, are minor, intermediate and major services. Unless your engines do in fact have an annual service interval, the cost that you quote can't be assessed without knowing which service is due. As has been mentioned, once the warranty has expired, you can use generic filters, oil, anodes and coolant at a huge saving, provided that, especially in the case of oil and coolant, they meet the Yanmar specs as shown in the manual.
