Hello,
I have a Yanmar 4JH4AE which is attached to a Kanzaki KM4A1 gear box. The engine starts fine and (according to the taco) idles at around 850 rpm. If I engage the forward or reverse gear at low RPM, there is a loud clattering sound coming from the gear box which disappears once the RPM is increased to around 1000.
I have noticed that many other boats have a definite 'bump' when they engage a gear but mine dose not, it just goes into gear with very little resistance and very smoothly which leads me to wonder if the gear clatter is a result of the idle speed being too low?
Many thanks.
