Evening all and noticed I have a small sea water leak from the hose in the pictures below, on our Yanmar 4jh3e and have tightened up the clips a bit more and hope I have sorted it but not sure and think it may need changing. Had a quick look at it and seems like I may have to remove a few parts to get to the hose and change it, so anyone done this before and any top tips?

Also, had some issues (jamming on way out) with the in mast furling and have done the following so far:
Replaced the outhaul line, continuous furling line and the blocks at the base of the mast.

Still having some issues so may be time to either get the sail recut, as seems to be a bit baggy in the centre (as it is now 14 years old) or buy a new mainsail. Any recommendations for either preferably near Portsmouth?

Thanks in advance.

Can't help specifically with the hose, but does look a fiddly job.

With a 14 year old baggy sail think you are probably looking at a replacement rather then spending money on a sail near the end of its life. Suggest you talk to Kemps at Gosport.

Have spoken to Kemp sails and reckon a new main sail is on the cards. Now the question is what material to go for, as we plan on keeping the boat and cruising the med next year.

Fibrecon (at approx £2200) or Vektron (at about £3700)??? Is the extra cost of the Vektran worth it?

Those who choose it say yes! Like any consumer choice (assuming the claims of the competing products are valid) you have to weigh up the pros and cons from your own perspective. The fact that both products are well established suggests there is demand for both. To my mind if you are looking long term then the greater potential life is attractive, and you have many years of enjoying potentially better performance.

Ref the water leak might be worth checking its not the drain tap on the corner , mine had a slight intermittent leak in the end I just fitted a tapered blank plug.
Have also replaced the hose , where the steel tube hose runs under the heat exchanger just undo the 2 fixing bolts then it moves enough to replace the hose.

Hi , On your attached diagram , if you look at the number 12 that's the fixing which hold the metal tube in place . only one not two as I said earlier. undo that plus j clips on hose you want to replace that should do the job.
But also make sure its not that sea water drain tap that intermittently may leak like mine use to , the sea water will collect in the same part of engine moulding below.

Thanks and will give that a go when I get the chance then as I can see it dripping from the j clips on the hose so think the hose has perished a bit.

Update time.

Hoping to have a sailmaker on board later today to have a look at the existing sail and then to decide if we need a new sail made (more than likely) or if our existing sail can be re-cut. Am erring towards a new sail anyway, as the Doyle sail we have is now 14 years old and as said we want to head to the Med mid next year and spend a few (5 or 6) years sailing around there.
