OK, this is a bit of an odd question because you'd think I'd know this, but clearly my memory is not doing it's job

We have a Yanmar 3YM30 engine, and having only had the boat since September last year didn't use the glow setting at all in the three trips we had before haul out. I had to use the glow setting on the ignition a couple of times a few weeks ago on the first sail of the season, and I thought that when I turned it to the glow position the oil pressure alarm sounded but I've tried it this weekend and didn't get the buzzer sounding. So my question is should the buzzer sound? Alsrm sounds no problem on normal ignition, so it's not a faulty buzzer.

Thanks for posting. We have the same engine, and it does the same, i.e:
  • On initial pre-heat, no lights on and no buzzer
  • On ignition on, no lights, no buzzer
  • Cranks easily and starts well (after preheat if from cold)
  • On stopping the engine with the stop button, the alarm buzzer sounds, and the oil pressure light comes on, until I turn the ignition off.
We may both have normality, or similar faults. I suspect the latter. There are wise people on this forum.

Hmmm 🤔That's slightly different from ours because we do get the buzzer and light on the ignition on. More input needed I think!

I get:-
Pre heat: No lights, no buzzer on pre-heat.
Ignition On: Lights and buzzer.
Ignition: Just starts.

The buzzer is from the oil pressure switch on the starboard side of the engine, if the connection is loose or corroded it won't buzz.

If you have a volt meter nearby the pre-heat will cause a slight voltage drop if it's working.
