I have dripping comming from the raw water pump on my yanmar 3jh3e engine .I have tried to get mannual from several yanmar dealers with no luck !Can anyone tell me if this is a straightforward matter of unbolting and replacing with new pump as on a car engine or is there more to this .I am reluctant to dabble until I have mannual or good advice .Any thoughts on water pump removal and also locating a mannual .i dont really want a cd but if it comes to i will and print it off .
cheers

Thanks for that Pete .Any info i can get us useful at present .i rang a few dealers and the ones spoke to said a mannual would have to be "back order" from Japan and could be a while .I would have thought even a dreaded "back order" would still be sorted in a short timescale given todays communications etc but not so .Thanks for the tip

I have to confess I don't know the difference between a 3Jh3E and a 3gm30 (?) but I think they may be similar. I had one of the latter and water pump was actually external to the engine on a bracket with a small hose connecting it to the block.

Replacement was child's play.

If its the raw watewr pump you don't need to replace it as you just remove and dismantle it and change the seals and shaft as req'd.
If you mean the circulation pump then yes you will have to replace it.

I have a Yanmar engine, although a completely different model to yours. I too had a dripping water pump as the seal had worn through. I tried to take it apart following the instructions in the manual. Everything locked solid, probably as the engine was 26 years old. I finally took the whole pump to Aqua Marine at Chertsey, who stripped the pump down for me for nothing although I then did buy all the parts from them that I needed.
I mostly deal with them by mailorder for any parts I need as it takes me about an hour to drive there.
I find them very helpful, particularly as my engine has been superseded several times.
Their url is:
