Yanmar 3gm 30 ignition switch

My ignition switch (not the starter button) has broken across the threaded bit that holds it on to the panel. A new one is £80. So I intend to replace it with something cheaper. The question is, how much current runs through it? Has anyone any suggestions for a replacement? It's just a simple on off switch, I'm not worried about having a key

Check out Furneaux Riddall https://www.furneauxriddall.com/acatalog/Switching.html . I'd expect them to have something suitable. (Even one with a start position could be utilised)

Sorry I did not address this in my earlier reply.

The wiring diagram in the owners manual shows that it supplies the warning lights and buzzer, the tacho if you have one and , when the start button is pressed , the starter solenoid.

This last item has by far the largest current draw. I recently measured one at 40 amps on a largish car. That surprised me but it agrees with the coil resistance of approx 0.3 ohms.

However you will see that yours is supplied by a 30 amps fuse and therefore wont draw more than this .

12volt planet have 12v 25A toggle switches which I think would be OK for the intermittent current required by the solenoid.

Thank you. I looked at both sites and couldn't really find anything which would do the job without too much fuss. I ended up getting a new Yanmar switch from Darthaven chandlery for just over seventy quid so I took the easy option.

I leave the key switch permanently on (closed) as i use the starter battery isolater switch instead. The yanmar warning buzzer then reminds me to isolate starter battery, and not waste it on other things...
