Mine fell apart today - the drive pulley pulled out bringing the shaft with it and a collection of ball bearings. Who should I go to to get a new one at anything like a sensible price - or do I take out a mortgage and go to a Yanmar dealer? Grateful for any suggestions.

The shaft and bearing assembly is held in the pump body by means of a circlip behind the pulley. If the ball races have come out, it suggests that the circlip has gone awol.
If that's the case, reassembly with a new circlip, and even new seal and bearings, might be a low cost option

If they were individual bearing balls, then it sounds like the bearings on the shaft have collapsed. If you're lucky, it'll just be a case of removing the races of the old bearings and fitting new bearings and seals.

Hi,
I have just had a similar problem, the front pulley rounded on mine and cut a groove in the shaft just before our holiday so a new pump was required. Bit of reasearch gave me the eyewatering price of £547 for a new Yanmar unit and £308 for a Johnson pump with a replacement impeller, the raw water pump is cheaper at £267.84. I spoke to a chap from Marine Power ( site address below) who was extremely helpful so I went for the cheaper pump which should give 500 hours of service. For the parts to repair a good site is Ribs Marine Parts which once you are registered gives a vast array of engine diagrams so that you can identfy exactly what you require again site address below.

Good luck

I made a bracket out of angle iron and used a jabsco pump from a petter. It only has to line up for the belt

cheers
