Hello everyone . I am still refurbishing my neglected Yanmar thanks to lots of help from forum members - new fuel lines/ new water /oil separator and oil filter fitted and water pump refurbished ! so far so good.
The latest hurdle is seen in the photos.
Is the 'white/cream' plastic pipe that is connected to the diamond shaped fitting (fuel injector ?) a fuel return line ??
This one travels about a metre and ends up in a coffee jar !!!! see photo .. I know its wrong but I just require clarification it is the fuel return line that should go back to the fuel tank .
somehow the engine ran like this .. over to you again.

Very strange.
It could be that so little fuel is returned to the tank on a 1GM10 that you can get away with this system.
How much fuel is in the coffee can?

Is it definitely fuel in the jar? My 3GM30F has a couple of these clear plastic hoses that drain to the bilge, I always guessed vents of some sort?

Yes it is the fuel return line.
Here a link to a full manual.

Here is a link to the owners service manual.

In the service manual the fuel system is illustrated like this.

You can see that the return fuel (8) has an attachment to the primary fuel filter, which I would ignore.
There is usually no connector on the fuel filter for this. So run it back to your tank.
That is, if you have a fuel return connection on the tank. No facility for the fuel to re-enter the tank might be the source of coffee can fix

if it is of any help, my 2GMF screaming at 3K rpm (it's on a generator) returns v.v.little fuel. so you probably got away with it and the jar :)
Do check the lift pump, engine looks well neglected, wouldn't be impressed if it's weak and will cause issues when run for real under load.
