Yanmar 1GM10 Panel - Lights question

Quick and simple one.

When I turn the key, I get the oil pressure lamp lit on and the charging warning lamp lit and the lovely buzzer sounds... I notice that the water temperature lamp stays off - is this normal, or should it also light temporarily before the engine is run?

The manual implies that it should light (section 6). Check the bulb

Sounds right....

Charge light cause it ain't charging
Oil cause it ain't got any oil pressure
no water light cause it is cold....!!!

According to my GM series operation manual (page 20) when the key is turned on the oil pressure and charging lamp should light but not the cooling water temp alarm lamp. There doesn't seem to be a facility to test this lamp other than by shorting the terminal (white and blue wire) to ground.
