I'm about to replace gearbox oil for the first time. According to manual for the 1GM10 which has a KM 2P gearbox I should use the same oil as for the engine. This is of course what I will do but in a locker I have found a mostly used gear box oil bottle - Esso GP with a SAE 80W 90. I've no actual proof that this was what was used in the gear box but circumstantial evidence and all that.... This is vastly different to the 15W 40 that has been used for the engine. Any thoughts on this? Gearbox seems to be operating ok.

I have the same engine/box and have used engine oil - 15/40 10/30 or some such.

I would guess EP80 might make a bit of a mess of the innards.

Easy way to tell whats in it though - the smell. Pull the dip stick and if its eau de cats piss you're getting - it'll be yer EP /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
