For the second time I have found an issue with the gear linkage mount of a yanmar 1gm10 and some threads stripped internally on the end adaptor that connects to the yanmar linkeage. (Two different boats, two different engines and gearboxes)
far as I can gather that is a yanmar part. The design of the morse cable mount does not allow for deflection through the arc of travel of the gearbox selector arm, so it looks like the threads are the potential wear point. Having seen this twice, and once using the engine in anger and mounting the pontoon with the bow, I was wondering if this is a common occurrence, or have I just been unlucky with old/ badly fitted kit.

The gear linkage is a weak point. It's an annual maintenance task for me to remove the joint, take it apart, clean it and grease it before replacing. Even so, a salt water leak caused rapid corrosion and seizing of the spindle attaching it to the selector arm. I've never had a problem with stripped threads though.
