Any thoughts on reducing the exhaust noise from my 1GM10. From the cockpit it is really intrusive. I have thought about a vetus in line mufler, do they work, I already have a waterlock.
Also does anyone know what size exhaust hose is fitted to 1GM10?

you may have hard mounts if you are getting excess vibe noise also check the manifold exhaust bend, it has an inner sleeve that prevents water returning through the engine and if badly coroded or broken off you may end up rebuilding the engine! web page

Do you have an air filter in place? These engines produce quite a bit of induction noise which is reduced considerably by the foam filter. Just a thought. I have a 1GM with a waterlock and it is quite quiet.

I have a pair of 3GMs and the noise level is quite acceptable even at large throttle settings. I have the vetus recommended setup - waterlock, muffler and gooseneck.

I installed a 1GM10 with waterlock and gooseneck. A season later I added a watermuffler to reduce exhaust noise - in my case it was worth it.

Thanks all, I do have air filter and the noise is from the exhauat which even when submerged through healing when motor sailing is noisy, also noisy down below but looking at the cost of Yanmar engine mounts I will live with it and stay in the slightly less noisy cockpit
