Can someone rescue me from my stupidity. having taken the belt off to take to the Auto Factor to get a replacement at non Yanmar prices I find I have left it on the boat!
Can some kind soul tell me the size or a car model to ask for?
I am sure it has been discussed before but a quick trawl was all I have time for and I couldnt find a link

Don't know about the Yanmar belts but it isn't just the length/circumference that matters, it is the shape of the vee, and width of the veed slot; also whether the belt is toothed or plain.
If I recall the Yanmar has a reputation for eating drive belts leaving rubber'dust' debris all about the compartment, so perhaps not a good idea to use an 'equivalent'.
The type is usually printed on the outer face of the belt and may be 1026, 1030,and a pattern type letter added, the number is the circumference in mm.

If you can, its better to take the alt+pulley to the auto-electrician.

When my alternator fried itself, the sparky suggested a slightly *wider* (non-toothed) belt than the various ones I found (including one claimed to be OE), on the grounds that it wouldn't bottom out on the groove.

It seems to be OK, so far.
