yes it leaks.

Does anyone happen to know the pipe diameter for the bottom short pipe? Or would someone mind measuring one for me. I am thinking of making up my own with copper pipe and some of these.

Can anyone see a problem with self build, this option makes future pipes easy to replace.

Hi
I had some HP rubber pipes made for mine, cost around £20 and should last for ever. The one under the water pump also had a larger protective pipe slid over before the ends were crimped on.
I can measure the pipes tomorrow for you.

Who supplies these fittings? Looks as though they could be useful for the low pressure fuel pipes too - I have a few problems with these and do not want to pay Yanmar prices - as usual!

Alternative to Yanmar prices

Hi,
if You take the hoses that needs to be replaced to Your local industrial hose Company and tell them what You're using it for they can make comparable hoses from braided hoses that will cost in most cases much less than Yanmar prices. Make sure the internal diameter of the hose is the same and don't throw away the old ones until job is done.
See my posting on the live aboard site concerning this matter.
Good luck /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I found these on the RS website, just enter a search for banjo. About £7 each I think.

It was not me who posted before.

This is a low pressure oil pipe, so I think it might be ok.

To Coppershield, is the internal pipe diameter that important, I mean, if it was a little out would it hurt. When you think about the whole system, it is very narrow through the banjo bolt then wide then narrow again back through the other banjo.

With this in mind, I can not imagine that the pipe being a midges to large for example would make an enormous difference.

Or would it?

I want to say we\'ll be OK but

Hi ShipsWoofy,
I want to say it will be OK but these are somethings you should keep in mind. Oil flow is the most important part of the engines. When you said low-pressure do you mean it is on the return line?
More than likely if the modifications you're making are no smaller than the smallest diameter on the original banjo connection it will probably be OK. But the internal resistance will definitely go up with a smaller diameter pipe, without calculating even the difference between 0.250" and the 0.3125" can easily be 15% to 20% if it was my boat I will not take the risk. In my experience everything will be fine until the conditions worsened and you demand most of your engines that is when the problem will be apparent.
As you may notice from my username I believe the copper is one of the most important materials but in this case I don't think I would make dramatic changes.
Good luck /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

PS : I believe the specs on my Yanmar for 4JHHTB I think this is the number. If I remember correctly gives the oil flow around 20 to 25 gal. per minute.

After the recent suggestion that we should report back I thought I should.

After much advice, many thanks to bendyone, I had some rubber hydraulic pipes built, stainless reinforced.

So far, only fitted to Starboard engine they are working fine, or seem to be. £34.00 for four pipes, had some built for the Port engine while I was there. Considering Yanmar's £70.00 each price tag that is quite a saving. And the new pipes should outlast the engines.

The company I found who built them while I was there, was http://www.manflex.co.uk.

So thank you everyone for your advice.
