Yanmar 1GM 10 decompressor

Did the tappets on my 1GM 10, put back the rocker cover, decompressor doesn't work.......took it off, looked, checked the manual, the lever is captive, the exhaust valve doesn't move, should work, put it back and it still didn't.....anyone had this before? should I just play around wiggling the cover as i tighten down? without taking a vernier and measuring everything I'm stuck.

Probably an hour or so fiddling will cure it, but has it happened to anyone else?

It sounds to me that your rocker cover is not seated down correctly, there is a spring return on the deco lever you have`nt has this lifted when refitting the cover ? Once as a get me home repair I spent around 5 hours laping the exhaust valve in as the seat had become badly eroded and found that I had to make and fit about 5 rocker cover gaskets to stop the deco from operating when refitting the cover as the valve was recessed into the head farther than normal.
