Hi all,

Looking for some feedback on this. Have a yanmar 10HP , runs as sweet as a nut pumps water ok and idle is good. When idile she gives out a chirping noise and the odd flickering of the red light. As soon as revs are taken up to say half the chirping goes away. Thought I must ask have not had achance to talk to the boat yard as yet down in poole. Have looked online but cant find much on this. Will upload a video as well.

the water ight second in from the right

If the thread title is correct and it is the water light that's flickering then that's the sail drive leakage alarm.
Nothing to do with the engine itself but might be a dodgy sensor.

Except ITYWF that the light labelled "WATER" is the cooling water high temperature warning.

We need to know which warning it is . Low oil pressure , high coolant temperature or water in sail drive seal.

Low oil pressure is perhaps the most likely to wink at idle ??

When we first had our boat with 2GM20 the water light would come on sometimes, strange though as it’s raw water cooled, turned out a loose wire was causing a short on the bulb holder.

is the engine on a sail drive? If not this lamp is not used, this was the one we had, it had a bulb in and loose wire.

On our old Yanmar YSE 12 the charge light used to flicker at tickover due to the revs being too low for the alternator to start charging. It was ok once the revs were increased , so we ignored it but eventually increased the engine tickover speed a bit.

This was happening on my engine and secure it we fitted a new impeller gasket making sure that there were no drips whatsoever from the impeller water pump cover
