I'm looking forward to watching the tale of HMS Amethyst I recorded from Ch4 this lunchtime. Stars Richard Todd, William Hartnell, Sam Kydd and many others. Ah! They don't make films like that these days. Even Simon the cat, who was decorated with the Dickens Medal for his devotion to duty rat catching under enemy fire, appears.

On another channel... but I didn't take much notice 'cos I only saw the schedule after the air-time.

A lot of it was filmed at Shotley with the picket boats from HMS Ganges dressed up to look Chinese.

If you look carefully you might see the occasional Thames barge on its way up to Ipswich.

I watched it and what I thought was very strange was that the shells from the Chinese were falling just on the port side but the RN boat was returning fire over her starboard quarter???
