i have yanmar 3jhe installed .The oil pressure flucuates between 1 and 4 on yanamr gauge .The engine starts and runs perfectly ,no smoke at all ,very economical ,uses no oil .Engine has done 1200 hours and was new in 2003 .The gauge has always done this but can anyone throw any light on what is correct and what is not ??
cheers

When you say fluctuates , do you mean up and down or do you mean starts high and then reduces as the engine warms up? On the older Yanmars, it is not uncommon for the oil pressure to start high at say 6 bar and then reduce to a running pressure of 2 bar when the engine is warmed up to running temperature. It then fluctuates slightly with the revs.

thankyou for the replies , the gauge does start high then gradually falls but sometimes goes back up with no increase in revs .i can get gauge to increase by revving engine but it eventually drops back . With say 200 revs on engine gauge reads just below 3 .As the engine is new to me i wasnt sure what pressure it should be showing .Engine is 4 eyars old .?
