Working through my new to me 1 GM10. Gradually getting better starting, and more confidence in the engine. It seems to pull like a little train and has plenty of power.
But I seem to have a few fuel weeps, leaks in the fuel lines. I think this is where I’ve had to bleed several times and I’m guessing the copper washers need replacing.
Any tips or hints on this? At the moment it isn’t a big problem apart from the fact that if I run the engine without the box and housing in place it shudders a (very) little spray of fuel around the cabin

You need to resolve the diesel leaks quickly or the boat will stink and you will have a real clean up job on your hands.

For the washers if you don't want to buy new ones first clean them, then heat them ( evenly) to a dull cherry red) and cool, I prefer to let them cool naturally in air rather than quench cooling in water. Remove any scale that may have formed with a quick brush of a non ferrous wire brush and the washers will be soft and useable.

If you look in the paets catalogue, where there is a copper washer specified there is almost always an alternative part number for a "dowty" washer. Easier to use and reusable. Heating old copper works to be sure but sonetinea they flare out and if you lack experience easy to strip threads if they don't at first seal.

Just had a box of Dowty washers from EBay. £6.99 for a box of 90. Item no. 404662981491. Used for my sump plug, but also good for diesel pipe joints.
