Ahoy !
Trying to extract innards from an old Yamaha 9.9(F9.9AE). Manual shows it has greased 'o' rings.
There are two neat screwdriver slots but it appears stuck to the point that I will destroy the housing
rather than get it off ! Ideas please ?

What took you so long ?
Sounds as if you have the Yamaha 9.9 repair manual ? Page 6.14 is probably the best in Lower Unit chapter.
It shows two 'o' rings greased but suspect sealant has been used too ? Only idea is to run a hacksaw blade around the joint but that will lose end float setting.

I presume you're trying to press it out 'from behind'?

????????????????

A couple of manuals here ( not sure which is relevant but look at both) Boatinfo - The library, containing manuals, brochures and other technical documents from the last hundred years!

Prising it out is not going to happen.

Tapping it round through 90° then tapping the "ear"s to get it out not going to work either I guess

A long legged puller with legs locating inside the housing seems to be the next thing to try ... shown in both of those manuals

Some heat applied to the gear-case itself might help

Other than a puller from inside as VicS says, you can't 'get behind' it. I suspect a puller will break bits off. The innards I wish to transfer are in a very decayed housing and I have started to dismantle with a hammer and chisel ! They disintegrate with surprising ease ! I have 'bitten the bullet' and bought a second hand gearbox with the correct ratio in it so will fit this one to another engine and keep as a third spare. The 'high thrust; Yamaha with the big prop and lower ratio,
3 - 1 rather than 2 - 1, makes a surprising difference pushing our 32' Dawncraft Romer along the 'cut' ! I have found heat with aluminium oxide doesn't work, in fact it turns the white powder into an Araldite like glue ! Diet coke (phosphoric acid) is best !
Thanks for help, Jim
