So me and SWMBO were in the dinghy coming back to the yacht. SUddenly, engine revs up and speed decreases. Manage to limp back to yacht but with very little power from the outboard.

Propellor still attached. Seems to go into reverse OK When stopped, there is resistance to turning the prop when forwards is engaged.

Has a gear gone in the leg?

The outboard is 4HP 4 stroke

Next stop Preveza. I assume someone there can fix it. Can anyone recommend a man who can?

I have an old Yam 4 2 stroke and first check would be to remove propeller and check sheer pin. This is a very easy job (the bits of pin may be causing the drag when turning by hand).

If it will drive OK at low throttle openings but slips when opened up it sounds like a spun prop hub.

Mark the nut on the end of the shaft and the prop. Go for a spin. If the marks no longer line up its a spun hub.

Maybe repairable, dont know!
