Does anybody know how to set up the linkage for these as it won't go into gear?
(not mine, a friends) Thanks.

Depends on exact symptoms.
shift lever wont move..... seized...... not uncommon.

Lever moves but gear does not engage. Joint between upper and lower shift rods come lose ???
Access by removing rubber plug in the leg.
Guessing a bit but Slacken clamp. Put lever in neutral and tighten clamp.

If you cannot move the shift lever at all, ie cannot even wiggle it a bit, then corrosion of the aluminium alloy around the shaft of the lever where is passes through it may be the cause.

Heat, release oil etc... all the tricks usually employed to free things stuck in this way.

You may have to remove power head** to access the the connection to the shift rod, remove that and gently tap the gear lever out.
Once withdrawn clean it all up grease and refit. Check the grease nipple is clear and pay particular attention to this when servicing.

**Not sure if you can remove and refit the powerhead alone or if you will need to also remove the lower unit to facilitate refitting the water tube. It's a good opportunity to replace the water pump impeller and even gearcase seals if you do have to remove it
