I want to replace the spark plug on my Yamaha F4 outboard. Both spark plug sockets I have are too long and foul the casing. Am I right in assuming that there is a socket that will fit or does the lower casing have to be removed?

Thanks. There is 24mm from the top of the plug to the casing which is too little to get my torque wrench in, let alone fit the wrench into the end of a socket.

Or this

When I had one I used a ring spanner to change the plug. No need for torque wrenches on a plug, but as it will be a long spanner hold it halfway down the shaft to avoid crushing the washer too much.

Thanks Lakesailor. I was just going make it finger tight plus a quarter/half a turn as per the manual. 25Nm is asked for but your bog standard torque wrench would never get in there to achieve that.

Use a double-ended ring spanner as they normally have a cranked end. A combination open/ring spanner is normally fairly flat and the head may not get down to the plug hex.

or use the one that came with the tool kit which came with the motor.

It may just be me, but I imagined that he would have thought of that first.
If it didn't come out of the dealer's door when you got it, it's pretty likely it went missing somewhere along the line.
