Just in the process of trying to find a 6 - 10hp 2 stroke to replace the ancient sea gull. I've been offered a 6hp Yamaha from Bill Higham Marine for £650 which has a 3 month warranty and I assume will be fully serviced etc before I get it. He did say that it was based on the 8hp motor so has plenty of "punch". Found one on Ebay which looks like it will go for less than £650 (obviously no warranty and probably been sat in someones locker for months/years). Can you tell by looking at it whether this one pictured is based on the 8hp one? :) Thanks in advance!

That is a pretty old one-nothing like the Yamaha 6HP twin two stroke I sold a few years ago.

The one I had was grey, not blue, and was very similar to a Mariner-I believe they were the same engine.
Thanks Rotrax! I've been searching unsuccessfully trying to figure it out..that rules out the ebay "special"! :)

Nope thats the single cylinder 6B. Its the same block as the 8B, but with bigger carb/jets (I think !). The twin cylinder 6/8C's have the more triangular cover.

That engine is between 29 and 33 years old. I know Bill Higham produce good used engines, but at £650 thats seriously expensive.

A good 15 year old 8C can be found for around £7-800

Just to be clear - the picture is one off ebay the old one. I haven't a picture of the one from Bill Higham, don't know how old it is but he assures me it's the twin cylinder version.
Eyemouth is too far - I'm in the north west, Cheshire, the boat is in Pwllheli, the other 'alf in the midlands...;)

I read it that way. I think landlocked has thought the pic is the Bill Higham motor.
I've had a motor from BH. It was very good and he is a very helpful bloke. I'd certainly recommend him.

No worries, I could have been a bit clearer! Yes after looking at various dodgy looking motors think the BH one sounds good, and I think BH includes a remote tank - will have to check..thanks for the input all! :)
