I thought i'd offer up a solution to anyone who has never taken

apart a carburettor, namely from a Yamaha 4hp circa 2009.

Here is a link to the online album, its public so anyone can access

it.

Picture quality is not great but should give enough confidence to give it a go!

I might as well add that removal of the carb is a piece of cake. Remove plastic lid/casing.

Remove 2 10mm bolts recessed in the air intake underneath the 2 plastic caps
The long bolts hold it all in place. I used a cheap 10mm socket bought from

http://www.maplin.co.uk/58-piece-ratchet-handle-screwdriver-bit-and-socket-set-99694

Be careful as you remove it all as bits will fall off (spacer, 2

gaskets, bolts and bolt spacers. Don't drop that little round o-

ring seated in the air filter.(Don't ask me how I know).

Did I forget to mention that the whole thing is left to soak in petrol and flushed with carb cleaner?

Clearly you need to improve on your fuel handling methods ( or supplier) if there was sand in the carb.

Some versions have a filter in the neck of the integral fuel tank. Others have one in the integral tank outlet and another in line in the inlet to the fuel pump when a remote tank can be used

What are your filters like?

Personally I put fuel through a funnel with gauze filter when ever possible.

Have you checked your tank and fuel cans
