I have bought a Yamaha 4 hp 2 stroke off eBay without doing any research, I had assumed that it would be a re-badged model like Evinrude /Johnson twin cylinder. But on collection I found it only had one spark plug, I.E One Cylinder.
It runs extremely well.
I wonder was this single cylinder engine a Yamaha manufactured engine or is it a Tohatsu
Paid £345. Perhaps too much but where I live very few outboards come up for sale

I have a brand new impellor for a Yamaha 4hp 2-stroke somewhere on my desk. If you'd like it, PM me an address and drop a couple of quid in th echarity box of your choice.

I had a Mariner 4HP 2T, it was a Yamaha beneath the skin, with the '3 tuning forks' logo on the castings.
Good engine even though it was old when I got it in the mid-late 90s and had clearly already had a hard life.
My wife struggled to start it though, so when a newer 2HP came my way, I bought that.
