I stripped my carb on my Yamaha 2hp outboard and like a fool messed with the carb screw on the outside. Is this the mixture screw or idle screw?? what should it be set at as my engine does not want to idle?
Thanks.

The starting point for the mixture screw (it should have a tensioning spring, and if you take it out is a needle valve) is 1-and-a-quarter turns out from the fully in position. You then adjust it to get best compromise between running and easy starting. At least IMHO.

Your problem may have nothing to do with screw settings.

Ensure you push the carb firmly home and hold it in position while tightening the clamp to ensure a good air seal between the carb body and cylinder. If you don't then you will have an air leak through the slot along the bottom of the housing and in through the gap between the carb and cylinder. Only a small leak but enough. I believe that the carp spigot sits on an O-ring when pushed firmly home.

Been there....got the Tee shirt.
